Devlog. Road to Alpha 5



Alpha 5. Sounds impressive, doesn’t it? Don’t worry, we’re as surprised as you are. To celebrate this occasion we decided to make the game’s story the main focus of the upcoming update, and release the first levels of the next chapter. But before we delve into that deeper, a few things.

 First of all, we’re expanding our network of social… networks. Apart from this page and our Facebook we’ve also set up a wiki where you can read up bits on your favourite characters, as well as look up some guides to the game. Like the game itself the wiki is still a work-in-progress, but you can always visit and check it out yourself. In addition, we’ve set up our own Discord where we’re planning to share updates parallel to our existing channels. Feel free to stop by, say hi, and ask us a question if you have any!

 And now the game. Previously we’ve talked about how we’re unhappy with the jumps. Alpha 4 saw a temporary modification of the code delivering better jumping mechanic. We’ve further modified the way jumps work, and so far we’re really happy about it. The player can now jump regardless of whether they’re grounded or not, but they’re only allowed one jump until they hit the ground again. This change brings about a more jetpack-y feel to the jump without being too much of a difference to the gameplay.


 To further sweeten the new jumping gig we’re introducing falling and death animations. While we had a variety of death animations in the earlier versions (see alpha 1) we had to get rid of them for a number of reasons. Now there is a generic death animation with (hopefully) more to come in the future.

 Lastly, we’re continuing the story into the second chapter. The chapter will take place in the asteroid mining facility that has recently been taken over by GSV Corp. While it is a completely new environment the level structure will be basically the same: a massive hub in the middle with different levels branching out. Some screenshots for your enjoyment:
